A wonderful Wednesday!

Happy birthday to my beautiful and amazing mom! We’ve had our fair share of fights but she is one of the strongest women I know ūüôā with an amazing husband/my father by her side!

  • Now, I have to brag… I got a PR on bench press (I know.. I cheated on humpday!!) – 130#! Full range of motion, 15# over my body weight! Doesn’t sound like much, but with the¬†metal plate in my right hand, this has been my slowest lift for increasing my one rep max (1RM). Super excited! 135#, here I come!
  • Finally, I’m so thankful for the cooler temperatures and thunderstorms this week! Enjoying it before the 90 degree temps come back in.

Move-It Monday Workout + Currently

Happy Monday! For me, it was another day of work and learning Рbut I still managed to get in a great workout! I had a break from work around 2:30 this afternoon and had to get a workout in to wake up my brain post-afternoon slump. Because the weather in Atlanta today (& yesterday) was much more pleasant than the 90+ degree temperatures, I had to get the following workout on outside.

Try this¬†Swing & Thrust Kettlebell Workout after a proper warm-up (I rowed 1000 meters on an indoor rower + a quick body weight warm-up consisting of squats and pushups). For the single arm KB swings, it doesn’t matter which arm you start with – just switch after completing the reps in the round before continuing to 2-arm KB swings. For example, I did 5 right arm swings, 5 left arm swings, followed by 5 dumbbell thrusters with a 20 lb dumbbell in each hand. The next round, I repeated in the same order with 6 reps of each, etc. Use a weight that you are comfortable with for all movements.

Here’s a quick “Currently”¬†survey¬†before bed, with a focus on my current favorite find from my last Vitacost haul:

Currently Drinking: Dandy Blend Instant Herbal Beverage, which contains a blend of chicory root, barley, rye, dandelion, and beet root extracts. I am in disbelief at how delicious Dandy Blend is, and it mixes instantly in hot and cold water!¬†I see how it can be used as a “coffee alternative” – if you compare it to coffee, it’s a little bit milder tasting.¬†I’ve been enjoying it as a drink with a dash of vanilla extract, sweetener, and milk (or coconut milk, cashew milk… You can even mix it into yogurt or recipes for a coffee-like flavor! Krush Bars – Natural Protein Bar Review

062515_krush01Krush Bars¬†(previously known as Krave bars) have been popping up all over social media for a while now! ¬†When I¬†worked at a¬†nutrition store, I even had a couple of people ask me about these – I wish our store had carried them then so I could’ve tried sooner and not feel so behind!¬†Now that I¬†work part time in a¬†gym, I¬†have people ask me for protein bar recommendations all of the time, so I felt it was time to give these a try!¬†After eyeing¬†the unique flavored¬†bars for a while, I finally decided to give in and buy a variety pack so I could try all of the flavors side by side. I definitely don’t regret¬†giving them a try!

Monday Moves – Sweet Summer Sweat Workout

Try this quick cardio+weights workout that will get your heart rate up while adding in core work, legs, and a push/pull combo. All you need is yourself and two dumbbells (pick a weight that is safe but reps 8-10 are super challenging!).

No weights? Try subbing Squat Jumps for the Thrusters and Inverted Rows instead of¬†the Dumbbell rows¬†for a full body-weight only workout you can do at home. Jeremy & I did this for one of our buddy work outs last week (it’s always fun to have a workout partner suffer next to you ūüėČ )

Week in review:¬†Got back in town late last Sunday from Erin’s beautiful wedding in North Carolina, and immediately jumped into buying a domain name and host for my¬†websites! The process took a little longer than expected, but I am finally done (maybe need a few tweaks here and there). I also picked up an extra job and got caught up on summer classwork. But I’m excited for what I have in store for the blog. For now, a quick photo dump!

[ Sunday Funday Favorites ]

Happy Sunday! Just finished up this post on my car ride between writing papers for school, so hopefully there aren’t too many car bump-instigated typos. ūüôā

This was going to be posted as a “Friday Faves” post, but I had a horrible internet connection during my trip to North Carolina. So I present to you my “faves”¬†from the past week.


My new Pyle Bluetooth headphones. Oh my gosh! I waited sooo long to get myself a pair of these and they make such a huge difference for my workouts! I put up with wired over-ear headphones for my cardio, but dangling wires+a spin bike was never a good idea.
These have been fantastic!!!! And they are waterproof, so no worries when I drip copious amounts of sweat everywhere.

Wednesday Quirks [#3], wedding anniversary soon!

Hump day! Hurray. But I’m getting my booty workout in tomorrow, so I guess I’ll celebrate a day late.

Just got finished grilling out and eating a delicious dinner of center cut pork chops, brussel sprouts, Kettle chips (Red Curry flavor), and oh-so-much watermelon. Jeremy has his pork chop grilling skills down to an art – I promise to get photos next time but completely devoured everything before I even thought about it. We were super hungry tonight. But what really got me was the watermelon. I grabbed a huge one for $3.99 at Fresh Market, along with the pork chops, and I think maybe I felt obligated to finish too much of it. haha. So now I’m sleepy with a watermelon belly.


 

Quirky/Weirdness Wednesday #3kiwi

  • I eat kiwis whole. Furry skin and all. According to the California Kiwifruit Commission, it’s completely safe to eat kiwi skin. unless you are allergic, of course. More fiber for me. ūüôā
  • I hate waking up & moving without ¬†a kick in the¬†butt with caffeine. It gets¬†a¬†bit¬†pathetic but I guess it’s how I’m wired…
  • Even weirder… I sleep better when I have caffeine. I recently cut caffeine for a month and had the WORST insomnia!
  • I have a nervous habit of picking at my cuticles on my thumbs.
  • In middle school and maybe some of high school, I had friends who called me “Buns”…. Because I was obsessed with nice buns.
  • ¬†I got married next to dolphins at Marineland in St. Augustine, Florida.¬†(Did I mention that¬†I’m obsessed with dolphins and the ocean already?). Since our anniversary is coming up on the 15th, I figured I’d get this one in here. <3

A. Attached or Single? Attached and very married to my best friend!

B. Best Friend? See above! But outside of Jeremy, I am blessed with many amazing friends, not just one.

C. Cake or pie?¬†meh… not a cake or pie person, usually.. But I have developed a love for some cake pops (they are slightly doughish in the middle & delicious)! I prefer brownies, choc. chip cookies, etc.

D. Day of choice?¬†mmm… Friday evenings because I usually have the weekend & fun plans to look forward to.

E. Essential Item?  I guess a sketch/notebook for my flurries of random ideas. Continue reading
