K-Beauty and Empties

Skincare can be expensive. A few nights ago, I squeezed a tube for a last hit of moisturizer, and faced a few facts: One – I need to reorder my moisturizer! Two – I buy too much shit that doesn’t work. Or that I just don’t love and use the product a few times only to toss it to the side and never use it again. This post is not about those forgotten items.

This post is about skincare that I buy and completely finish. Every last drop. And hopefully remember to reorder long before running out.

I have a history of troubled skin. Acne, dryness, flakiness, itchiness, scarring. Hormones craziness all shows on my face. Maybe I’ll save that history for another post. Bottom line is, I’m finding solutions that finally work with my skin and it’s been great. I’ve learned to love moisture and my skin thanks me. Recently. I discovered K-Beauty, famous for affordable and effective skincare formulations and regimens. Here are a couple of recent “empties” that I am definitely repurchasing in the future.

1. Benton Snail Bee Ultimate Serum, on Soko Glam here

Snail Bee Ultimate Serum

How I use it: On slightly moist skin, after cleansing/toning. AM and PM.

Ingredient Highlights: Snail mucin and bee venom! Also tea tree, niacinamide, and adenosine. Contains fermented ingredients, great for the skin microbiome. As per the Soko Glam product page:

The base of the serum is snail secretion filtrate that’s been fermented by yeast derived from grapes and then filtered. It works to repair skin, clear acne scars, and treat hyper pigmentation, while the bee venom in the formula calms and targets breakouts. Tea tree and camellia sinensis leaf waters offer additional soothing and acne-fighting benefits. Niacinamide and adenosine provide additional brightening and wrinkle-fighting benefits, respectively. The mild formula is free of fragrance, volatile alcohol, PEGs and has a slightly acidic pH that’s similar to that of the skin.

Why I love it? Snail mucin sounds gross but is fantastically moisturizing – slides over my skin but quickly absorbs. Does not ball up under moisturizer or makeup. I love that this serum boasts ingredients which multitask with skin repairing, anti-acne, and anti-aging benefits. For my sensitive skin, the lack of fragrance and irritating ingredients is a HUGE plus.

2. Super Ceramide 100 by Sur.Medic+, on Soko Glam here

Super Ceramide 100 by Sur.Medic+

How I use it: I apply AM and/or PM after my serums and other treatments have dried (usually wait about 5 minutes)

Ingredient Highlights: Ceramindes, Centella asiatiica, green tea, propolis, and beta glucans. As per the Soko Glam product page:

Five types of ceramides work with hyaluronic acid to moisturize and restore the skin barrier, while botanical extracts like centella asiatica and green tea leaf soothe. The result is a glowing, healthy and youthful complexion.

Why I love it? While treating one problem (acne), I began encountering a not-so-fun side effect – dry, peely, flaky skin. Particularly in the lines of my face. Ceramides to the rescue! Fast absorbing, non-greasy formula. No irritation, no acne breakouts!

Super Ceramide 100 … Proof of the emptiness.
